This simple yet luxurious creamy saffron sauce is perfect for elevating your favorite pasta dish. The rich flavors of saffron, cream, and Parmesan combine beautifully to create a sauce that’s aromatic, smooth, and utterly delicious.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 1/4 teaspoon saffron threads
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Cooked pasta of your choice
Directions:
- Infuse the saffron: Start by infusing the saffron. In a small bowl, combine the saffron threads with 2 tablespoons of warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes, allowing the saffron to release its vibrant color and unique flavor, which will be the heart of your saffron sauce.
- Sauté the aromatics: In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Once the onion is tender, add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
- Add the saffron and broth: Pour the chicken or vegetable broth into the skillet and bring it to a gentle simmer. Stir in the saffron threads along with the saffron water to deepen the flavor of your sauce. This step ensures that the saffron sauce will be infused with its signature golden hue and delicate floral notes.
- Create the creamy base: Lower the heat to medium-low and slowly add the heavy cream. Stir continuously, allowing the sauce to gently simmer for 5-7 minutes. As the sauce simmers, it will thicken, creating a rich and creamy saffron sauce that’s the perfect coating for your pasta.
