If you’re searching for a satisfying and easy-to-make porridge recipe, look no further! This firm and filling saffron-infused porridge is the perfect way to start your day, combining the warmth of cornmeal with the boldness of South African biltong.
Ingredients:
- Yellow cornmeal (firm porridge)
- A few strands of saffron
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Grated cheese (to taste)
- Biltong powder or finely chopped biltong
- Jalapeño sauce (a few drops for a kick)
- Aromat or your favourite spices (to taste)
- Tomato sauce (or your favourite sauce)
Directions:
- Prepare the Porridge: Cook your yellow cornmeal to your preferred firmness, making sure it’s thick and hearty.
- Infuse with Saffron: Melt the butter in the microwave and add a few strands of saffron. Stir well to let the vibrant color and aroma of the saffron infuse the butter, then mix it into the porridge for a warm, golden hue.
- Add the Toppings: Sprinkle the biltong powder or finely chopped pieces over the porridge for a rich, savoury bite.
- Spice it Up: Add a few drops of jalapeño sauce for a little heat, and season with Aromat or any other spices you love.
- Finish with Cheese and Sauce: Sprinkle grated cheese on top of the saffron porridge, and drizzle your favourite tomato sauce (or any sauce of your choice) for extra flavour.
- Enjoy: Dig in and savour every spoonful of this unique, wholesome saffron and biltong porridge!
Pro Tip: This saffron porridge is perfect for breakfast or a comforting snack at any time of the day. Add more saffron for a deeper flavour, or switch up the spices and sauces to suit your taste.
